Inga, a mysterious child who accompanies Shinjūrō. Inga and Shinjūrō are tied by a mysterious bond. Inga is usually protected by Shinjūrō, but when a crisis is at hand, their roles are reversed.

Inga has special abilities that help Shinjūrō solve cases.

Appearance[]

Child form[]

When in this shape, most people refer to Inga as a young boy. According to their design notes, Inga is intended to reflect the “super-detective” fashion style (e.g., Bungo Stray Dogs or Detective Conan).

Inga looks like an androgynous teenager between the ages of 14 - 15. They are short (157 cm), have purple eyes and pale skin; due to their skin color and being often portrayed with a yellowish sclera, Inga looks sickly. They have shoulder-length hair, slightly wavy, of a purplish grey tone. A long bang normally covers their right eye, hiding a jet-black spot on their face.

Inga wears knee-height, black cargo pants and a fluffy key-chain that resembles a tail. The skin on Inga's left arm and right leg is also jet-black, which many people mistake for a sock. Inga wears a pastel-pink shirt, with a black waistcoat over it, the sleeves of the shirt are rolled up to their elbows. Inga also wears a white, fluffy panda hat on their head. Two black, long mittens are attached to the hat by strings, child Inga is often seen wearing them.

Adult form[]

When Inga transforms into their true form, they drastically change appearance, becoming a beautiful woman. Adult Inga is feminine and voluptuous, but also keeps some distinctive features such as their pale skin, purple eyes and hair color. Just like the child form, the adult form also displays a jet-black spot on the right eye (except this time it is not covered by hair).

Inga's adult form wears an adaption of Inga's panda hat, a white fluffy shawl with mittens attached to it. While child Inga usually wears the mittens, adult Inga leaves them hanging. Adult Inga's attire is asymmetrical, it consists of a black top with one red sleeve and black hot pants with one red leg; the top shows Inga's cleavage and belly button.

Personality[]

Child Inga has a bubbly personality. They are always active and child-like, sometimes even naïve. They are very loyal to Shinjūrō and have an affectionate relationship with him. They admire Shinjūrō and call him "The Last Great Detective". Inga is always hungry for the truth and wants to unveil it as soon as possible. This is also why they sometimes "can't hold it in any longer". This means that they are eager to transform into their adult form, use their ability and "devour" the truth. When they and Shinjūrō get closer to the truth, Inga gets overly excited.

In their Adult form, Inga has a slightly different personality, becoming more flirty and more sadistic. They have a temper and sometimes resorts to violence. However, they are more cool-headed than in child form, even manipulative.

Backstory[]

The movie "Un-Go Episode 0: Inga Chapter" (アンゴ 因果論, Hepburn: Ango Inga-ron) explains how Inga and Shinjūrō met.

Shinjūrō was involved in a car accident taking place as he and a group of acquaintances were passing through a war zone. The accident led them to crash into some sort of ritual grounds or underground cemetery, where Inga and Bettenō were sealed. Shinjūrō flew nearby Inga-Ron’s statue and punctured his neck with a stone stake, his blood splashing the statue.

It is implied that Shinjūrō's blood awoke Inga just as Bettenō was awoken by Serada's blood when he laid his bleeding hand on her statue. During her wake, Inga possesses Shinjūrō and devours the souls of all the people present, except for Yūko Kurata’s and Makirō Serada’s.

As Inga consumes Kurata’s friends and reveals their “truths”, Kurata chooses to commit suicide and “make sure no one ever sees into her soul”, stating that "there isn't an 'only truth' in people's heart". Inga tries to prevent Kurata from killing herself and jumps from Shinjūrō's body to Kurata's, but it is too late. After regaining control over his body, Shinjūrō asks Inga why his soul wasn’t devoured like the others were and concludes that his blood was still needed for Inga's awakening. Upon learning of the dangers posed by her, Shinjūrō decides to strike a deal with Inga: To stop killing people while devouring their souls and help him to eventually find the truth of his heart. In return, Shinjūrō offers Inga taking her to a place filled with liars and ripe truths. Inga accepts, and Shinjūrō asks her to stop using Kurata’s shape. Eventually, Inga takes the form of a teenager, possibly inspired by a film strip Kurata previously took from Shinjūrō (which was in Kurata's pockets at the time of her death).

Abilities[]

Shapeshifting and flexibility[]

Stretched arms

Inga stretching their arms to reach the Kazamori Sasa plush.

Inga has the ability of partially or completely changing the shape of their body. For example, when trying to reach for a doll under a closet, Inga extends their arms to get a hold of it. In other occasion, they are also seen slipping through tight space (broken walls) to reach another room.

Most notably, Inga transforms from a teenager to an adult woman when using their powers for Shinjūrō .

Strengthened arms

Inga using their super strength.

Unusual strength and speed[]

Inga has unusual strength. In episode 5, their arms become larger and very muscular, using this ability to break Shimada's tank and revealing countless golden bars. In the final episode, Inga uses their strength to wrestle Bettenō. In Episode 0, Inga uses their speed to catch-up with Shinjūrō after he escaped the police and also to prevent Serada from shooting Shinjūrō.

Healing[]

Inga has the power of healing wounds, in episode 0 they heal Shinjūrō mortal wound and later restores his arm after he jumped to a solar panel grid While escape an arrest. Inga also heals Kurata´s body, albeit too late to prevent her death.

Soul devouring - truth seeking[]

When Inga takes their Adult form, they employ the power to reveal the truth, which consists in asking a question that opens a subject’s heart and makes them answer faithfully. Upon exposing "the truth", Inga feeds on the subject’s “screams” (deemed as their soul). This power can only be used once, which means an individual will faithfully answer to Inga just once. This ability has proven very useful in cracking cases, but the difficulty lies in asking the right question, so that the culprit will indeed be revealed.

Inga's power

Inga revealing "the truth".

When using this power, Inga holds the head of the subject with their hands and asks the question while keeping direct eye contact. Light starts to flicker, and Inga's eyes start glowing purple; the subject beholds the visage of a corpse staring at them. Inga's eyes and mouth open widely, glowing intensely, then Inga's body scatters like purple butterflies, and enters the victim, after which he or she has no choice but to answer the question Inga asked, with the truth.
